Material – Crochet Café Sign

• A cotton or acrylic yarn dk weight – 100 gr is enough, color brown
• a 3 mm crochet hook
• a piece of carboard, plastic canvas or wire to make the sign stand sturdy
• 2 small hinges
• a little chain

Abbreviations

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

tr: treble crochet

dtr: double treble crochet

hdc3tog: 3 hdc together, here it’s a decrease of 3 hdc (in 3 different stitches) together

inc: increase

R: row / round

Notes:

Every row ends with a ch 1 then turn, and every round ends with a slip stitch.

The yarn gauge for this project is: 5 cm x 5 cm = 16 stitches (sc) x 18 rows.

Crochet Café Sign Pattern

The Back Panel

Chain 26, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Row 1: 25 sc (25)

Row 2 to 33: 25 sc (25)

Cut the yarn and fasten off (weave in the ends). Make 2 of them.

The Front Panel

Chain 26, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Row 1: 25 sc (25)

Row 2 to 33: 25 sc (25)

R34: 1 hdc, (1 dc, 1 tr) in the next stitch, 4 tr, 1 dc, 1 sc, 1 dc, ( 1 dc, 1 tr) in the next stitch, 2 tr, tr inc, 2 tr, (1 tr, 1 dc) in the next stitch, 1 dc, 1 sc, 1 dc, 4 tr, (1 tr, 1 dc) in the next stitch, 1 hdc (30)

Cut the yarn and fasten off (weave in the ends). Make 2 of them.

At this point, take one of the back panel and one of the front panel, then sew the 2 hinges at the top of each of them (at their row 33 for both of them) just as shown in the pictures down below.

The Frame – Crochet Café Sign

Chain 93, then sl st in the 1st loop of the chain to make a circle with your chain base. We will now make in round.

Round 1: start from the stitch where we have made the sl st: 19 hdc, hdc3tog, 22 hdc, hdc3tog, 19 hdc, hdc3tog, 22 hdc, hdc3tog (25)

Finish the round with and invisible join. Cut the yarn and fasten off. Make 2 frames this way.

Now pick the others front and back panel left, and sew the frames on each one of them. Please note that you should only sew the top, left side and bottom of the frames to the panels. The right side should be left untouched so you can slide some paper after to your café sign (see pictures below). Also note that you should only sew the outer edge of the frames and leave the inner edge untouched in order for the paper to get stuck under the frame (see the last picture below).

The Feet

Chain 5, starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Round 1: 3 sc, ( 3 sc in the last stitch), continue working on the other side of the chain base: 2 sc, (2 sc in the last stitch – where we started our round) (10)

Round 2 to 6: 10 sc (10)

Cut the yarn and fasten off (weave in the ends). Make 4 of them.

Sewing Time – Crochet Café Sign

Cut 2 pieces of cardboard: one in the front panel’s shape, one in the back panel’s shape. Don’t forget to include the feet of the panels when making your shapes (2 in the front, 2 in the back). This addition serves as the backbone of your café sign, providing your creation the stability and firm foundation it needs to stand on your desk.

Now that you prepared your carboards, time to sew the two front and two back panels together.

Insert the carboard in between the 2 front panels, slide 2 of the feet at the bottom, then sew everything together. Repeat this process for the 2 back panels.

Now add the chains on both sides to make the sign more realistic but also keep it from falling flat.
