Crochet Your Own Fantasy Sword Bookmark Now

Ever wished that your bookmark could be as enchanting as the stories your books hold? Say no less as I’m about to introduce you my new and charming fantasy sword crochet pattern, because your reading deserves a touch of handmade charm. After my two previous crochet bookmark, the Lemon/Orange bookmark and the Carrot Bookmark, I designed this whimsical sword to be the perfect accompaniment to your reading adventures, imbuing your books with a delightful touch of enchantment. Grab your yarns and hook, and let’s stitch up something cute and unique together. Let’s go!

Material – Crochet Sword Bookmark

  • 3 different colors of acrylic or cotton yarn (Worsted weight or DK): pink, blue, ecru
  • 3,5 mm crochet hook
  • Craft wire 0,6 mm
  • Optional: embellishment for your sword such as rhinestone, nylon ribbon etc…

ch : chain

sl st : slip stitch

sc : single crochet

hdc : half double crochet

dc : double crochet

inc : increase

dec : decrease

BLO : back loops only

R : row/round

Crochet Sword Bookmark

The Blade

Chain 21, and starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Round 1: 19 sc, (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc) in the last stitch, continue working on the other side of the chain base: 19 sc (41), ch 1 then sl st in the BLO of the 1st sc of the round.

Round 2: Grab the craft wire, we will work this round around it as we go: 16 hdc, 1 sc, sc dec, 1 sl st, (1 sc, 1 dc, 1 sc) in the next stitch, 1 sl st, sc dec, 1 sc, 16 sc (41)

Cut the yarn and weave the ends.

The wings

Chain 6, and starting the 2nd loop from the hook:

Row 1: 4 sc, 1 sl st (5) Ch 1 then turn

Row 2: skip a stitch, 2 sc, sc inc, 1 sc, ch 4, then turn

R3: starting the 2nd loop from the hook: 4 sc, sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sl st, ch 1 then turn

R4: skip a stitch, 2 sc, sc inc, 5 sc, ch 4, then turn

R5: starting the 2nd loop from the hook: 8 sc, sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sl st, ch 1 then turn

R6: skip a stitch, 2 sc, sc inc, 9 sc, ch 4, then turn

R7: starting the 2nd loop from the hook: 12 sc, sc inc, 2 sc, 1 sl st

To finish the wing, make a sl st in the 1st row we made, on the side, then ch 1, skip a stitch on the 1st row, then sl st in the next one. (see the video tutorial below for a better understanding). Cut yarn and fasten off.

Make 4 wings this way.

The Handle – Grip

Make a magic circle. Note that every round ends with a sl st in the 1st stitch of the round.

Round 1: 4 sc (4)

Round 2: 3 sc in each stitch (12)

R3 to 4: 12 sc (12)

R5: sc dec x 6 (6)

R6 to 13: 6 sc (6)

R14: (3 sc in the 1st stitch), 2 sc, (3 sc in the next stitch), 2 sc (10)

R15: 1 sc, (3 sc in the next stitch), 4 sc, (3 sc in the next stitch), 3 sc (14)

R16: 2 sc, (1 hsc, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the next stitch, 6 sc, (1 hsc, 1 dc, 1 hdc) in the next stitch, 4 sc (18)

Cut the yarn and weave in ends.

Sew everything together – Crochet Sword Bookmark

Slide the blade inside the handle (you may slide a piece of craft wire inside the handle before, to make it more sturdy), grab 2 wings and sew them both together at the same time, face to face, on one side of the top of the handle, making sure to go through the handle and the blade at the same time.

Do the same for both side, to have a wing on each side of the handle.

When you’re done sewing every thing together, the only left thing to do is to embellish your sword with some ornaments of your choice. And voilà, you will have the most original and fantasy like bookmark ever!
